THE SEDGWICK MISSION

The Sedgwick Mission, located in Sedgwick, Colorado, is an arm of Church of Christ–Rock Sound. The Sedgwick Mission is comprised of Papa's House and Reclaimed & Resurrected Building Supply. The Mission is in its early stages and growing little by little.

Brother Bill Townsend invites anyone in the northeastern corner of Colorado to stop in for a visit. We'd love to meet you!

MEET THE PEOPLE

Bill Townsend met Lincoln Young, pastor of the Church of Christ-Rock Sound in the Bahamas, a few years ago. Bill, a frequent visitor to the island, attended the church whenever he could, and he and Pastor Lincoln became best of friends.

A couple of years ago, Bill, who at the time was living in Omaha, Nebraska, came to Sedgwick, Colorado for a visit, and ended up falling in love with the little community.

To make a long story short, God led Bill to move from Omaha to Sedgwick and put into his heart the dream of starting a ministry.

PAPA'S HOUSE

The name "Papa's House" is derived from the Hebrew word, Abba. and is an informal name for our Heavenly Father. It's a perfect name for this informal gathering place where people can come in and sit for a while, get to know one another, and visit. God is putting it all together right here, in His time and His way.

Come early for coffee and fellowship!

Papa's House (aka little church) is a work in progress. Bill acquired the abandoned church building a couple of years ago and has been working to fulfill the dream God has put in his heart. First and foremost, he sees Papa's House as a gathering place where Jesus Christ is honored and everyone is welcome and no one is judged. It's a place where people can come to get away for a little respite to be rejuvenated and revived.

He recalls a day when there were nine people from all walks of life gathered in the humble little building. "There were AA people, Hispanic people, a very staunch Democrat, a very strong Republican, and by the end of it, they were all friends," explains Bill. "But in the beginning, it was like, oh, my God. Marian and I looked at each other from across the room, and we watched this all unfold, and we said, we see God here!"

Before it was all said and done, the two guys were pouring over a collection of baseball cards, no longer put off by the politics of the other. That’s what Papa’s House is all about!

God has given Bill a huge vision for what can be done in Sedgwick with this little church. He has brought together individuals to come alongside him, like Jordan, who has been hauling stuff out of the old church, and Ron, who has been tearing apart an old house donated to the mission.

Then there is Miss Marion, who lives down the street. When the two first met, Bill asked Marion what she would do with the old church if she owned it, and she instantly drew up a rough draft of a plan. Amazingly, it coincided with much of what Bill had already been thinking and working to implement. Both Marion and Bill marvel at how God is connecting all the dots, as only He can do!

Looking to the future, Bill envisions Papa’s House developing as a catalyst or elevator for little cottage businesses. "I see it as a refuge and a place of provision and have lots of ideas for long-term little cottage businesses that can take us back to the basics and even provide a supplemental income for people."

Anyone interested in making candles or wooden crates for their own use or to sell may contact Bill.

CHESTER'S CORNER

Chester's Corner, located in a corner of Papa's House, is a place where we have coffee, water, cinnamon rolls in the morning, and also some nutritious snacks available to offer anyone who drops by. It is named Chester's Corner in honor of a brother of Miss Butler (one of the women at the Eleuthra church) who died at a very young age, and a relative of Pastor Lincoln’s who also was named Chester.

In the future, we hope to add "CHESTER'S CHOICE" a couple of days a week. The idea would be to serve a hot crock-pot meal at lunchtime.

R&R

Reclaimed & Resurrected Building Supply

Ron, operations director for R&R, took on a building deconstruction project, dismantling a house piece by piece last year. The lumber, old window, and fixtures were sold at a small profit or donate to people in need. Check out the slideshow below.

Upon completion of this first R&R project, a stove, dryer, front door, shower unit, and four ceiling fans were loaded into Bill's old Big Yellow truck, which he calls "Faith" and delivered to someone in the community.

They are always looking for projects, so if you have a building that needs tearing down, contact Bill at 402-676-0809.
